Submissions for the 2020 IMPACT Awards are now open! We know there’s some extra uncertainty for everybody this year given the major happenings in the world, so we put together some quick, helpful answers to commonly asked questions about the IMPACT Awards and this year’s submissions.

What are the IMPACT Awards?

The IMPACT Awards are presented by the PRSA Southern Arizona chapter to recognize excellence in PR, marketing, and communications in Southern Arizona. Open to everyone in the community, you do not have to be an active member of PRSA to participate.

What’s the difference between general IMPACT Awards and the Special Awards?

General IMPACT Awards submissions are for specific projects completed on behalf of your client or organization – some examples include a marketing campaign, op-ed, holiday card, or video series. Here’s the list of eligible project categories and entry requirements for the general awards, which involve a submission document and optional supporting materials – these are like the “Best Picture” or “Best Original Song” awards at the Oscars.

Special Awards are by nomination and for individuals with an outstanding body of work. Our new Special Award, Media Person of the Year, can go to anybody within the media field, whether it’s an on-staff journalist or a freelance writer. These nominations are completely free and are awarded for outstanding contributions to the field – more like an overall career recognition award.

This is earlier than I usually submit to the IMPACT Awards – has the timeline changed?

Yes! We’ve moved up the timeline this year based on feedback from past entrants – 2020 IMPACT Award submissions are due June 30th, 2020, with the annual IMPACT Award celebration slated for August 25th, 2020.

Will the IMPACT Award celebration be an in-person event?

We are currently planning for an in-person celebration on August 25th with appropriate social distancing measures in place. However, we’re certainly open to moving to a virtual format and/or delaying the event based on community feedback and CDC recommendations. All IMPACT Award entrants will be contacted and asked to provide their input so we can better understand their preferences and comfort level with attending an in-person event in late August.
