February Luncheon: Pitching Tucson to National Media

As local southern Arizonans, we know that Tucson is the place to visit. We have 365 days of sunshine, wide open spaces, a growing culinary scene, a developing downtown as well as some of the best resorts in the country. Visit Tucson’s Public Relations team Mary Rittman and Dan Gibson have been working overtime to share the unique traits that make Tucson so special with National media. Join us to hear the trials, tribulations and successes Mary & Dan have experienced while pitching Tucson to non-tucsonans.


Mary Rittmann is the director of public & community relations for Visit Tucson, overseeing the communications department. Before joining Visit Tucson, she spent 12 years promoting the state of Arizona as director of trade and media relations at the Arizona Office of Tourism, worked for the City of Moab, Utah as executive director of the Grand County Travel Council, and served as director for Saga Holidays, in Boston, Mass., overseeing the Smithsonian Odyssey Tours product line.

Dan Gibson Headshot-Nov16Dan Gibson is the director of communications for Visit Tucson, primarily overseeing domestic, culinary and local media efforts. Previously, he was editor of the Tucson Weekly, a music journalist for Apple Music, Gawker and elsewhere, the manager of a bakery, a graphic designer for publications including California Tomato Grower and Mini-Storage Messenger, and a three-time game show contestant. He is also the founder of the multi-generational dance troupe Beat on the Street.
